What could be better than a free day-spa just for cancer patients, to have a safe place to be pampered and comforted. The brainchild of Oncologist Mary Allison and her friend Connie Bernstein, A Caring Place provides a patient the services that traditional cancer treatments miss — care for the heart, mind and soul. It’s a model that I would love to to see replicated across the US, and these courageous friends made it a reality in Nevada.
“Oncologist Dr. Mary Ann Allison had a long time dream of opening a center to provide free programs and services that complement medical care to those touched by cancer. Her patient Connie Bernstein, diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer, utilized and benefited from many complementary care modalities during her treatment. These included meditation, Reiki, gentle yoga, and nutritional counseling.
The dream became a reality as Dr. Allison and Connie worked together to co-found The Caring Place, an oasis away from medical facilities that supports the health of body, mind, and soul.”
