Growing into adulthood is difficult enough, even with a loving family and a safe place to call home. But for kids living on the streets, often abused and abandon by their own family, growing up can be littered with guilt, shame and hopelessness.
Sacramento has a wonderful organization who’s volunteers focus just on this vulnerable population. The purpose of WIND Youth Services is to provide a “Safe place for youth, ages 11 – 18, experiencing homelessness who need safety from the streets and access to resources to help them move from crisis toward healthy functioning and independence.”
I am thankful for the courage of those who volunteer at WIND to give homeless children the support and love they need. And I am increadibly inspired by the courage of these children to survive another night, to take another step forward, and to trust again.
“Youth comes but once in a lifetime.”
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882)
