Day 88: Worth their weight in gold

I love food TV! My husband and I met while we were both attending a little cooking school, so cooking holds a special place in my heart.  So when Guy Fieti from the Food Network did a segment on a cooking school for kids called Worth Our Weight, I was thrilled.

Worth our Weight is a restaurant/apprenticeship program for disadvantaged youth in Santa Rosa, California. The creator of WOW is Evelyn Cheatham, and she has dedicated her retirement to giving kids the tools they need to grow.

“WOW apprentices are young people from 16-24 who have faced major challenges in their lives, including foster care, difficulties with the law, homelessness, and significant family disruption. We provide tuition-free culinary and food service  training. Our program invites these young people into the greater world of food—sustainable farming, professional cooking, and access to high-quality food prepared by chefs and food service professionals—as well as provide them with the skills to prepare quality food for themselves.”

The more I look for the courageous among us, the more I realize they are EVERYWHERE!
